Miami.— Former Dominican second baseman Luis Castillo was inducted into the Miami Marlins Hall of Fame during an emotional ceremony held at LoanDepot Park, as part of the Dominican Heritage Weekend. The tribute took place before the game between the Marlins and the Toronto Blue Jays, in the presence of franchise legends and thousands of fans.
Castillo, 49 years old, played 10 seasons with the Marlins, in which he accumulated a batting average of .293, .370 OBP, 192 extra-base hits and 533 stolen bases, achieving a total of 22.4 wins above replacement (WAR) in 1,128 regular season games. During his time in Miami, the second baseman won three Gold Gloves, was three-time All-Star and was part of the historic 2003 World Series champion team against the New York Yankees.
The exaltation ceremony, the first in the organization’s history, also included other iconic figures such as Jeff Conine, Jim Leyland and Jack McKeon, all part of the legacy that led the Marlins to glory. Castillo and Conine participated in the official launch of the immortals’ niche, accompanied by other memorable names such as Juan Pierre, the also Dominican Antonio Alfonseca, the Cuban Liván Hernández and Gaby Sánchez.

In addition to his collective achievements, Castillo holds several historical franchise records, including the most games played and a 35-game hitting streak in 2002, a Major League record for a second baseman at the time.
Castillo’s legacy also extends to winter baseball, where with the Tigres del Licey he was a key player in three LIDOM championships, winning the Gold Glove in the 1997-98 season, leading in triples (4) in the 1998-99 tournament and in stolen bases (17), establishing himself as one of the most complete players of his generation.
