SANTO DOMINGO. – Former Major League Baseball star Alex Rodriguez was officially announced as a new inductee into the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame, a recognition he will receive during the 60th Ceremonial of Exaltation scheduled for Sunday, November 15.

The information was provided by the president of the Permanent Committee of the Hall of Fame, Dionisio Guzmán, who highlighted that Rodríguez was selected by the country’s Sports Writers Associations, an organization with the responsibility of choosing each year a Major League baseball player and an athlete from another sports discipline.
Rodriguez becomes the eighth athlete confirmed for the special class corresponding to the celebration of the institution’s 60 years of history.

Considered one of the most complete players in the history of baseball, Alex Rodriguez left an indelible mark on the Major Leagues thanks to his combination of power, defense, and offensive consistency.
During his career he hit 696 home runs, a figure that places him in fifth place in Major League history, in addition to accumulating 3,115 hits, 2,086 RBIs and 2,021 runs scored.

Born on July 27, 1975, in Washington Heights, New York, to Dominican parents, Julio Rodríguez and Lourdes Navarro, Alex was considered a phenomenon since his school days at Westminster Christian School in Miami.
His talent led him to be selected as the first overall pick of the 1993 Draft by the Seattle Mariners.
He debuted in the Major Leagues on July 8, 1994, at just 18 years old and subsequently shined with the Seattle, Texas Rangers, and New York Yankees organizations.
With the Rangers, he signed the most lucrative contract in the history of North American professional sports at that time in the year 2000: 252 million dollars for 10 seasons.
Among his main achievements are three American League Most Valuable Player awards (2003, 2005, and 2007), 14 All-Star Game appearances, 10 Silver Slugger awards, two Gold Gloves, and four Hank Aaron awards as the best offensive hitter.
