SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) announced this Monday the selection of Luis “Pipe” Urueta as Manager of the Year of the 2025-2026 championship, after his outstanding work at the head of the Águilas Cibaeñas.

Urueta led the Aguiluchos team to dominate the Regular Season of the tournament, dedicated to Don Juan Marichal and in dispute of the BanReservas Cup, closing with the best record in the league, 32 wins and 17 losses. His leadership, consistency, and strategic management of the roster were decisive for the sustained success of the team throughout the campaign. The leader received the most support in the vote of the accredited reporters, scoring 315 points, the result of 55 first-place votes, 13 second-place votes and one third-place vote. He surpassed Víctor Estévez, of the Toros del Este, who accumulated 221 points with 14 votes for first place, and José Leger, of the Gigantes del Cibao, who finished with 85 units. The selection was made by a panel of 69 voters, comprised of communicators with no labor or commercial ties to the six franchises of the tournament, members of press departments and broadcasting networks, Dominican journalists residing in the United States, international reporters based in the country, and representatives from different provinces, ensuring a balanced and nationwide process. According to the LIDOM awards regulations, the weighted voting system assigns five points to first place, three to second, and one to third. Urueta’s experience and strategic vision were reflected in the performance of the Eagles, who established themselves as one of the most solid teams in the championship, including at least two streaks of eight consecutive wins throughout the regular season. This recognition adds to other awards recently obtained by members of the Cibaeña organization. Last Friday, Alberto Rodríguez was chosen Rookie of the Year, while on Sunday Gian Guzmán received the award for Executive of the Year. LIDOM will continue with the announcement of its individual awards this Tuesday with the revelation of the Pitcher of the Year, and on Wednesday it will close the awards ceremony with the selection of the Most Valuable Player.
