Gian Guzmán is chosen Manager of the Year of the 2025-26 LIDOM championship

SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) announced this Sunday that Gian Guzmán of the Águilas Cibaeñas, was selected as Manager of the Year of the 2025-2026 championship, after leading the vote held by a jury composed of 69 sports communicators nationwide.

Guzmán topped the scrutiny by totaling 284 points, the result of 48 first-place votes, 13 second-place votes and five third-place votes, surpassing Jesús Mejía, general manager of the Toros del Este, who took second place with 228 points, including 19 first-place votes. The eagle-eyed executive received support in 66 ballots, consolidating his election thanks to the outstanding sports performance of the Águilas Cibaeñas, who dominated the regular season of the tournament dedicated to don Juan Marichal and in option to the Copa Banreservas. In the voting process, Jaylon Pimentel, general manager of the Gigantes del Cibao, who accumulated 70 points, and Carlos Peña, of the Leones del Escogido, with 39 points, were also considered, thus completing the finalists’ list.

Criteria and Voting System

The Executive of the Year award recognizes the most outstanding managerial and strategic work of the championship, valuing aspects such as team building, personnel management, administrative decision-making, and the results obtained during the season. The choices were made using the weighted valuation method, which assigned:
  • Five points to first-place votes
  • Three points to second-place votes
  • One point to third-place votes

Composition of the jury

The evaluation panel was made up of a large group of communicators, ensuring impartiality and diverse representation. It included:
  • Five communicators with no labor, professional, or commercial ties to the six participating franchises (Santiago, San Francisco de Macorís, Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís, and La Romana).
  • Four members of the press and broadcast departments of the teams.
  • Three Dominican communicators residing in the United States.
  • Three international reporters based in the Dominican Republic.
  • One communicator from provinces without professional baseball organizations.
The provinces represented were La Altagracia, El Seibo, María Trinidad Sánchez, Valverde, Puerto Plata, La Vega, Espaillat, Monseñor Nouel and Peravia, ensuring regional equity.

Other announced awards

LIDOM also reported that the Man of the Year award was given to shortstop Erik González, of the Leones del Escogido, while the Rookie of the Year award went to Alberto Rodríguez, of the Águilas Cibaeñas. The individual championship awards announcement schedule will continue this Monday, when the winner of the Manager of the Year award will be announced.
