“Marlins designate Christopher Morel for assignment after a difficult stint in Miami”
Miami. The Miami Marlins designated Dominican player Christopher Morel for assignment before their Sunday matchup against the San Francisco Giants, ending a tenure marked by injuries and a lack of offensive production.

n” “nMorel arrived at the team with the expectation of providing power at the plate after signing a one-year, two-million-dollar contract during the offseason. However, the player was never able to find consistency and ended up batting .162, with no home runs, in 22 games played.
Although he remained on the active roster, the versatile player had not seen action since last June 10th.
n” “n“Chris is a true professional. He handled himself very well during this difficult period here and I wish him the best,” said Marlins manager Clayton McCullough.
n” “nThe season started in a complicated way for Morel, who suffered an oblique injury during batting practice prior to Opening Day on March 27. The discomfort forced him to start the campaign on the injured list and delayed his debut until April 27.
n” “nOnce activated, the Dominican player failed to secure a regular spot in the lineup and his offensive struggles continued until the club made the decision to designate him for assignment.
Morel, 26, showed his potential during his first campaigns with the Chicago Cubs, hitting 16 home runs in 2022 and 26 in 2023. He was subsequently traded to the Tampa Bay Rays midway through the 2024 season, where he remained until becoming a free agent at the conclusion of the 2025 campaign.
n” “n“At the start of the season we had high expectations that Christopher could regain the level he showed in 2022 and 2023, but it simply didn’t happen,” noted McCullough. “The injury before the start of the season set him back and the opportunities to play were diminishing in recent weeks.”
