CHICAGO. – The Chicago Cubs placed Dominican pitcher Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list this Sunday due to a blister on the middle finger of his right hand, an injury that caused him to leave his last start early.

The decision was made before the game against the Astros, after Cabrera tried to test himself from the mound at Wrigley Field without positive results. The move is retroactive to Thursday and the right-hander will not be able to return before June 5.
To take his place on the roster, Chicago promoted left-hander Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa, who emerges as one of the main options to join a rotation affected by multiple injuries.
Cabrera left his start on Wednesday against Milwaukee after showing discomfort and losing velocity on his pitches. It was later confirmed that he had been dealing with the blister even before that game.
The 28-year-old Dominican has a solid season record with an ERA of 4.00, in addition to 47 strikeouts and 20 walks in 54 innings pitched in 10 starts.
The Cubs also continue to face problems in their mound body. Left-hander Matthew Boyd remains injured after knee surgery, while Cade Horton was ruled out for the rest of the campaign and Justin Steele is still recovering from a muscle strain.
