Santo Domingo. With the regular season concluded, Dominican winter baseball enters its most intense stage. Águilas Cibaeñas, Leones del Escogido, Gigantes del Cibao and Toros del Este are preparing to star in a high-tension semifinal, where only two teams will manage to advance to the dispute of the LIDOM title.
The Round Robin begins this Saturday with a double header that will set the pace for a phase characterized by constant pressure and the need to perform in every game. The Lions will open the action visiting the Eagles in Santiago, while Gigantes and Toros will face each other in La Romana.
Beyond direct clashes, the semifinal will be influenced by the moves made in the Re-entry Draft, as well as by possible incorporations that could change the competitive landscape in the coming days.
Since the implementation of the Round Robin format, the Águilas Cibaeñas have been the most consistent franchise in this instance, followed by the Leones del Escogido, while Gigantes and Toros seek to consolidate their recent growth and return to a final series.
Each victory will have a determining weight in the standings, as the margin of error will be minimal. Upon concluding the demanding round, only “two teams will survive the semifinal round” and will obtain the right to fight for the crown of Dominican baseball.
