WASHINGTON. – Dominican pitcher Sandy Alcántara once again demonstrated his leadership in the Miami Marlins’ rotation by working seven solid innings in the 7-3 victory over the Washington Nationals, a result that also ended a five-game losing streak for the Florida team.

On a night when Miami needed depth from the mound following the injury to fellow Dominican Eury Pérez, Alcántara responded with an efficient and quality performance to ease the burden on the bullpen.

Although the Nationals managed to do damage early with a two-run home run by Jacob Young in the second inning and another run in the third, Alcántara managed to control the game and keep the Marlins in contention.
The National League Cy Young winner showed great command and pitch efficiency, reaching the seventh inning with just 81 pitches thrown.

Miami’s offense responded at the key moment of the game thanks to a two-run home run by pinch hitter Heriberto Hernández in the sixth inning, a hit that tied the score and changed the course of the game.
Subsequently, Connor Norby drove in the run that gave the Marlins the definitive lead, while in the ninth inning Liam Hicks and Kyle Stowers hit home runs to extend the lead.

Alcántara’s departure becomes even more significant after Dominican Eury Pérez was placed on the injured list due to discomfort in his right inner thigh, a situation that will force the Marlins to reorganize their rotation.
