Toronto secured its pass by defeating the
New York Yankees on Wednesday by
5-2 at
Yankee Stadium, winning the Divisional Series (ALDS) in four games. The Blue Jays finally took down a rival that for almost a decade was their “big brother” in the
American League East.
The
ALCS Game 1, presented by
loanDepot, will be played on
Sunday, with a time to be confirmed, broadcast on
FOX/FS1.
“Why not the Blue Jays? Why not this year?”, was the feeling in the clubhouse after the victory. It’s the dream season of a team that no one expected to see go so far.
The Yankees were eliminated, while the Blue Jays will return to Canada to rest and wait for the winner between the
Detroit Tigers and the
Seattle Mariners, who will define their series on Friday. This is Toronto’s
first appearance in the Championship Series since the memorable campaigns of
2015 and 2016, when a group full of talent and character thrilled the entire country.
But this 2025 team has conquered the nation in a different way: by surprise.
Just a year ago, Toronto won
74 games and arrived at spring training promising “internal improvements,” an uninspired motto for a team with much to prove. Furthermore, uncertainty about the contract future of
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. seemed to overshadow the entire picture. Projections placed them as an average team.
