Vladimir Guerrero Jr. breaks José Bautista’s home run record in Blue Jays history during a postseason

SEATTLE.– Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continues to leave his mark in the history books of the Toronto Blue Jays. This Thursday, during Game 4 of the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners, the slugger broke a record that belonged to another Dominican legend: José Bautista.

Guerrero hit his fifth home run of this postseason, surpassing the mark of four that Bautista had set in 2015. The home run, a solid hit to the opposite field in the seventh inning against the Venezuelan Eduard Bazardo, came off the bat at 103.5 miles per hour and traveled 359 feet, according to Statcast data.

Guerrero’s home run was his second in the series against Seattle and his fifth overall, after hitting three in the Divisional Series against the Yankees. In addition, the hit allowed him to reach 11 RBIs in these playoffs, establishing himself as one of the most productive pieces of the Canadian team. The Hall of Fame member’s son Vladimir Guerrero Sr. continues to reaffirm his status as a star figure in MLB, guiding a Blue Jays team that seeks to return to the World Series for the first time since 1993.
