Toronto. — Vladimir Guerrero Jr. woke up his power at the right moment and the Toronto Blue Jays felt it immediately. The Dominican slugger connected a huge 420-foot home run in the first inning and led his team’s 8-6 victory over the San Francisco Giants, securing the tenth consecutive home win for the Canadians.
Guerrero’s home run, his first since June 29, also marked his third extra-base hit in the last 14 games, reactivating an offense that had been relying on collective rather than individual efforts. With his powerful and timely swing, “Vladdy” rekindled the spark at the Rogers Centre, helping the Blue Jays complete the sweep over San Francisco.
“We are winning and we are playing good baseball, and for me that’s the most important thing,” Guerrero expressed. “I will keep working hard and giving my best.”
Bo Bichette also shined with a two-run double in the third inning, while George Springer hit his 17th home run of the season. Mexican Alejandro Kirk and Addison Barger added more runs with a single and a two-run home run, respectively, during an explosive fifth inning.
When the Giants threatened with a four-run rally, Guerrero responded again. His second hit of the game —a perfectly placed grounder— drove in Springer and re-established a lead that the Blue Jays never relinquished.
With this victory, Toronto added its 29th comeback win of the year, the most in the American League, and strengthened its position at the top of the East.
