White Sox announce starting pitcher rotation and Eloy Jiménez’s debut for the second week of the season

Santo Domingo. — The Toros del Este defined their pitching rotation for the second week of the 2025-2026 autumn-winter baseball tournament, and also confirmed the awaited debut of Eloy Jiménez, one of the club’s main offensive figures.

The leader Víctor Estévez informed that the left-handed Matt Dermody will open this Tuesday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium against the Tigres del Licey, in the first of a two-game miniseries. The Nicaraguan Carlos Rodríguez will take the mound on Wednesday when the blues return the visit at the Francisco Micheli Stadium in La Romana.

After a day off on Thursday, the Toros will visit the Gigantes del Cibao on Friday, with right-hander Aaron Sánchez scheduled to start. Sánchez is coming off a brilliant performance against the Leones del Escogido, in which he limited the capital’s offense to just one hit in five scoreless innings, with no walks and seven strikeouts.

On Saturday, in La Romana, Aaron Brooks will have his first start of the season after missing his previous turn due to a virus. The week will close on Sunday with Richelson Peña facing Escogido again at the Micheli. Peña pitched four innings of one clean run in his first outing against the Estrellas Orientales.

The “Big Baby” Debut

The big news for this Tuesday will be the debut of Eloy Jiménez, who will see action for the first time with the taurine uniform against the Licey. Jiménez, nicknamed “Big Baby”, was acquired last season in a trade with the Leones del Escogido, along with Yeison Asencio, Luis Valdez and Wendell Rijo, for Rafael Montero, Henry Sosa and Randy Florentino. Jiménez, 28 years old, will participate in his fourth campaign in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), after three successful seasons with the Gigantes del Cibao, in which he accumulated an impressive offensive average of .346/.420/.571, with six home runs and 30 RBIs in 36 games. In the Major Leagues, the outfielder has a total of 95 home runs and 298 RBIs in six seasons with the Chicago White Sox and the Baltimore Orioles, with a batting average of .269 in 534 games. With the incorporation of Jiménez and the announced solid rotation, the Toros del Este will seek to maintain momentum in the young tournament, dedicated to Juan Marichal, and establish themselves as one of the most competitive teams in the championship.
