Yamamoto leads Dodgers to 3-0 victory over Rays to take the series
Tampa, Florida .— Japanese Yoshinobu Yamamoto shone again from the mound and guided the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, thus securing the series and successfully closing their longest road trip of the second half of the season.
On a hot and humid Sunday at George M. Steinbrenner Field, Yamamoto worked 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing few dangerous contacts and striking out six rivals. The bullpen completed the shutout to preserve the Angels’ victory.
The Dodgers’ attack broke an 18-inning scoreless offensive drought when Cuban Andy Pagés hit a run-scoring single to left field in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, after a double steal by Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman extended the lead with another run-producing hit. Betts closed the scoring in the ninth with a sacrifice fly.
Yamamoto, 26 years old, is going through a great moment: he came to the game with an effectiveness of 2.27 in his last six starts and again demonstrated his dominance, even in outings where his team offers him little offensive margin.
With this result, Los Angeles closes its tour with a positive balance after winning series in Cincinnati and Tampa, picking up after having fallen in Boston the previous weekend.
