Yankees release Marcus Stroman after bolstering their bullpen at the deadline
New York. —A day after reinforcing their pitching staff during a hectic Trade Deadline, the New York Yankees made the decision to release right-handed pitcher Marcus Stroman, who had been in his second season with the team.
Stroman was the starting pitcher for Thursday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, where he earned the win despite allowing four runs and six hits in five innings of work.
During the current campaign, the veteran pitcher recorded a 3-2 record with an ERA of 6.23 in nine starts, totaling 26 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.54. His irregular performance, added to the team’s new bullpen moves, would have influenced the decision to release him.
The 34-year-old right-hander arrived at the Yankees in 2024, a season in which he posted a 10-9 record with a 4.31 ERA in 30 appearances (29 as a starter). His time in the Bronx concludes after providing experience and depth to the rotation at key moments.
