SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORÍS. The Gigantes Basketball Club secured their third championship title by defeating the Metros de Santiago 91 to 80 in the sixth game of the LNB Super League Banreservas Cup final series, held this Sunday at the Mario Ortega Indoor Stadium in this city.

The Giants defined the game starting from 8:25 left in the fourth quarter with an 18-9 run with 3:38 remaining in the period, taking a 14-point lead (83-69), which reached as high as 17 points.
With 2:16 on the clock, the new LNB Super League champions had a 15-point lead (88-73), and they continued to punish the Metros’ defense, who lose a final for the second consecutive time, following the defeat suffered last year by a 4-0 sweep against the Titanes del Sur.
For the Giants, who won the series 4-2, Charles Brown Jr shone with 27 points, followed by Francis Fitzgerald, with 24 points; Juan Miguel Suero scored 19 with eight rebounds, and Edgar Tejada added 10.
Reinforcement Charles Brown Jr. was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the final, after achieving an outstanding performance that led the Gigantes to the championship title. The quarters concluded 23-22, 31-18, 12-18, 25-20, in favor of the San Francisco de Macorís team.
For the Metros, Juan Guerrero scored 26 points with 13 rebounds; Omar Silverio added 18 points, and Jordan Hall finished with 10 units.
In the third quarter, the Metros adjusted their defense and held the Gigantes to 12 points, taking advantage of the absences of Zimmerman and Ferreiras, who faced personal foul trouble.

With 18 points in the quarter, the Metros entered the final period trailing by six points (60-66).
With three players in double figures in points, the Gigantes staked their claim in the first half, which they won by 14 points (54-42), after a first quarter that ended 23-22 in favor of the hosts.
The attack was led by Charles Brown Jr, with 15, Francis Fitzgerald with 14 and Juan Miguel Suero, with 13 points.
Defensive intensity was a factor for the Gigantes to crystallize that lead in the first half, after limiting the Metros to 20 points in the second period, while no player from the Santiago team scored 10 points. Only Omar Silverio managed nine points.
With 6:38 left to play in the second quarter, the Giants took a 34-26 lead, while with 5:12 remaining they went up 42-33, and with 1:52 left, the team from San Francisco de Macorís was winning 48-37.
With a 5-0 run, the Metros cut the lead to 42-48, but the Gigantes charged back with a 6-0 run to head into halftime with a 12-point lead (54-42).
