SANTO DOMINGO. – The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, congratulated this Wednesday the stellar Dominican basketball player Karl-Anthony Towns after the New York Knicks qualified for the NBA Finals after convincingly defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“Happy and proud as Dominicans to see our Karl-Anthony Towns in a great final, after the resounding victory of the New York Knicks against the Cleveland Cavaliers. You made it to the final! We wish you the best and that you continue to raise our national flag,” expressed the president.
With this message, the head of state highlighted the pride that it represents for the Dominican Republic to see Towns reach one of the most important moments of his professional career, consolidating himself as one of the main Dominican figures in international sports.
Towns also recently stated that playing in the NBA Finals with the Knicks has a special meaning, as it is the team he followed since childhood.
“It’s an honor to be able to do this with the team I grew up supporting my whole life,” said the player, who managed to advance to the Finals on his third attempt, after coming close to the goal in previous seasons.
The stellar player, of Dominican mother, was born and raised in Piscataway, New Jersey, and has become one of the main references of Dominican basketball worldwide thanks to his outstanding career in the NBA.
