SAN ANTONIO. – The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-82 this Sunday at the Frost Bank Center to tie the NBA Western Conference Finals at 2-2, driven by another dominant performance by Frenchman Victor Wembanyama.
The stellar young player finished with 33 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals, and three blocks in just 31 minutes, leading the Spurs in a game they dominated from start to finish. Wembanyama, who hours earlier was included for the first time in the season’s best quintet, shot for 50% effectiveness and made three three-pointers to the euphoria of the fans in San Antonio.
“We just did what we had to do,” expressed the French center after the match, highlighting the adjustments made by the team after falling behind in the series.
The Spurs’ defense was key in stopping the powerful Thunder offense, which scored only 82 points and had a poor performance from the three-point line, making only six of 33 attempts. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, was limited to 19 points.
Guard De’Aaron Fox also contributed to the victory with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, while the Spurs managed to have a lead of up to 25 points in the third quarter.
With the result, the series is tied and will move again to Oklahoma City for the fifth game, scheduled for this Tuesday at the Paycom Center.
