Santo Domingo.– The Dominican baseball team will debut this Friday against Puerto Rico in the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games tournament, in a match scheduled for 8:30 p.m., with the goal of starting their quest for one of the event’s medals on the right foot.

Veteran pitcher César Valdez will be in charge of starting the inaugural game for the Dominican squad, in a setting that favors his pitching style. Manager Félix Fermín Jr. has already defined his rotation for the following matchups, with Esmil Rogers scheduled to face Curaçao on Saturday and Enny Romero to face Cuba on Sunday.
The Dominican Republic is in Group A along with Puerto Rico, Curaçao, and Cuba, while Mexico, Panama, Colombia, and Nicaragua make up Group B. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals.
The baseball tournament represents one of the main medal hopes for the Dominican delegation, which seeks to increase its harvest in the second half of the Central American and Caribbean Games.

In addition to baseball, the wrestling competition begins this Friday, a discipline that also figures among the podium options for the country.
The sports schedule will continue over the weekend with the Dominican basketball team, which will seek to secure a medal in the semifinals, while boxing will begin its competitive calendar with the expectation of placing several athletes in the medal standings.
Next Tuesday it will be the turn of Olympic and world champion Marileidy Paulino, who will compete in the women’s 400-meter semifinals in search of advancing to Wednesday’s final.
Likewise, the weightlifting competitions will begin on Wednesday, another of the disciplines in which the Dominican Republic aspires to add medals and remain among the main delegations in the general medal table.
