FIFA has reportedly imposed disciplinary sanctions on Argentine players and staff following the altercations that broke out after Argentina’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final on July 19.
According to the report, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee handed Leandro Paredes a 10-match suspension, while Nahuel Molina received a seven-match ban. Assistant coach Roberto Ayala was suspended for three matches, while Spanish midfielder Pablo Martín Páez “Gavi” received a one-match suspension.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) was also fined $321,000 for incidents during the tournament. FIFA additionally ordered Argentina to play its next two home matches with stadium attendance limited to 50%.
The post-match confrontation became one of the tournament’s most controversial scenes. Paredes was involved in a physical confrontation with Spanish defender Eric García, while Gavi intervened to defend his teammate.
