FIFA faces criticism after U.S. World Cup host cities say promised funds remain unpaid
FIFA is facing fresh criticism after host cities in the United States claimed they have not received the financial support promised for staging matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to reports, FIFA pledged to distribute $11 million, providing $1 million to each of the 11 U.S. host cities, an announcement made during the FIFA Club World Cup.
However, city officials now say the funds have not been delivered, sparking frustration as local governments continue to cover expenses related to hosting the tournament.
The dispute comes amid broader scrutiny of FIFA and its leadership following controversy surrounding proposals linked to the future commercial management of the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA has not publicly explained the reported delay in the payments.
