Messi: "This group has already written a history that we will never forget"

A few hours before playing the grand final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Spain, the captain of the Argentine national team, Lionel Messi, shared an emotional message on his social media in which he thanked his teammates, the coaching staff, and all the people who are part of the national team.

The Argentine star assured that, regardless of the match result, the Albiceleste has already left an indelible mark on the history of football.

“The best thing about all these years was never just the titles, but the whole journey. Sharing the day-to-day with this group, competing together, picking ourselves up in difficult moments, and enjoying every step,” wrote Messi on his Instagram account.

The 39-year-old forward accompanied his post with a photograph of the entire squad and the coaching staff, who this Sunday will seek to win the fourth World Cup for Argentina, following the titles obtained in 1978, 1986, and Qatar 2022.

Messi also expressed his gratitude towards each of his teammates, the coaching staff led by Lionel Scaloni, and all the people who work daily around the national team.

“Whatever happens tomorrow, this group has already written a history that we will never forget and that no one will be able to erase,” stated the Argentine captain.

The final against Spain will mark, barring an unexpected future decision, Messi’s last participation with the Argentine national team in a World Cup.

Considered one of the best footballers of all time, the Rosario native won the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 Finalissima, the 2024 Copa América, and the historic 2022 Qatar World Cup with the Albiceleste, achievements that solidified his legacy with the national team.
