Jon Rahm repeats in the European Ryder Cup team, from which Sergio García is left out

Sports writing (EFE).- Spanish player Jon Rahm, former world number one, will play his fourth Ryder Cup after being chosen as a member of the European team that will face the United States team in New York at the end of this month, from which his compatriot Sergio García has once again been left out, as happened two years ago in Rome.

The captain of the European team, Briton Luke Donald, announced this Monday the six players of free choice who complete the twelve-player squad that will take part in the competition to be held at the Bethpage Black course from September 26 to 28. Rahm’s designation was taken for granted after winning the LIV overall for the second consecutive season and despite not having won any title since September of last year. In addition to the Basque golfer, Donald has chosen Irishman Shane Lowry, Austrian Sepp Straka, Norwegian Viktor Hovland, Swede Ludvig Aberg and Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick to participate in the tournament held every two years. These join the other six golfers already automatically qualified by their position in the ranking: Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, number two in the world, Scotsman Robert MacIntyre, Englishmen Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Tyrrell Hatton and Dane Rasmus Hojgaard. Rahm expressed his joy after being selected to be part of the European team. “I didn’t think I was going to get so emotional. It’s going to be very special. I’m really looking forward to being at Bethpage. I hope we can do better than last time in the United States. It will be stressful, but fun,” commented Rahm after the announcement of his selection by the captain of the European team, the Briton Luke Donald, on a program on the British channel Sky Sports. The Basque golfer revealed that Donald called him a few days ago to inform him that he was going to be one of the six selected, who join the other six golfers automatically qualified by their position in the official ranking.
