San Cristóbal Chess School inaugurated with a 50-scholarship program for underprivileged children

With the purpose of fostering talent, discipline, and the comprehensive development of children and young people, the San Cristóbal Chess School was inaugurated last Thursday, an initiative led by chess player Omayra Aybar, who announced a program of 50 scholarships for underprivileged children.
Thanks to the support received through the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sports, the San Cristóbal Chess School will launch this program that will support children from different sectors of the province with the aim of developing their skills and discovering new talents in this sport.
The Vice Minister of Sports, Franklin de la Mota, highlighted the importance that the creation of these types of spaces has for the development of children and young people, valuing the initiative promoted from San Cristóbal.
During the keynote speech, Omayra Aybar expressed that the opening of the school represents the materialization of a dream that was born from her passion for chess since she was eight years old, a discipline that marked her life and that she now wishes to put at the service of new generations.
“Today we are not simply inaugurating a school. We are opening the doors to new opportunities. Here we will train champions on the board, but, above all, champions in life,” he stated.
The founder explained that the institution will promote scholarship programs, inter-neighborhood tournaments, and community activities to bring chess closer to children from different sectors, especially those facing economic limitations.
Aybar expressed his gratitude for the support of the authorities, institutions, family members, and collaborators who have contributed to making this project a reality, demonstrating their commitment to the development of chess in San Cristóbal and throughout the country.
Likewise, he highlighted his interest in continuing to promote the National Chess Plan together with the Vice President, Raquel Peña, whose vision is to expand access to this discipline in schools, neighborhoods, and communities.

As part of its growth aspirations, he expressed his desire to turn the initiative into a national reference institution, with a view to evolving into the Omayra Aybar National Chess Academy.
“Great dreams also begin with a first move!”, concluded Aybar.
The opening ceremony was attended by Senator Gustavo Lara; Deputy Otoniel Tejeda; provincial governor Pura Casilla; Mayor Nelson de la Rosa; and the rector of the Instituto Politécnico Loyola, Father José Victoriano, along with other prominent authorities, personalities, and business leaders from the southern province.
