Spain defender Pedro Porro fulfilled a heartfelt promise by giving his 2026 FIFA World Cup winner’s medal to his grandfather, Antonio, who supported him throughout his childhood.
Porro, who was named the tournament’s Best Right Back, returned to his hometown of Don Benito, Spain, after helping Spain capture the World Cup title.
The Tottenham defender scored two goals during the tournament, including a crucial strike in Spain’s semifinal victory over France, and became a key player for head coach Luis de la Fuente after beginning the competition on the bench.
In an emotional reunion, Porro presented the gold medal to his grandfather, who had accompanied him to training sessions when he was a child.
Holding the medal, Antonio became visibly emotional and said, “It’s beautiful. This is such a great honor… Now Grandpa has the medal here at home.”
