Spain forward Nico Williams shared one of the most emotional moments of the 2026 FIFA World Cup celebrations by giving his winners’ medal to his mother moments after lifting the trophy.
Following the medal ceremony, Williams walked directly to the stands and placed the medal around his mother’s neck, drawing applause from fans and teammates alike.
The gesture carried special meaning given his family’s journey to Spain. Williams’ mother left Ghana in 1994 and crossed part of the Sahara Desert in search of a better future before eventually settling in Spain.
The emotional exchange quickly went viral on social media, with many praising the footballer’s tribute to the sacrifices his mother made for their family.
Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final to claim the nation’s second world title.
