New York.- YouTube announced this Monday that, starting next August 24, it will modify the way it counts video views to register a visit the moment the content begins to play.

This update seeks to standardize measurement across its entire platform, after the same measure was implemented last year for its short-form videos, known as Shorts.

With this change, the YouTube counter will work similarly to that of other competing social networks, such as Instagram and TikTok, which also add a view from the very first frame.

For its part, the X platform counts a view after two seconds of playback.

YouTube points out today -in a statement- that “this change will not affect creator revenue or the access requirements for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP).”

“Creator revenue will continue to be based on ‘Shorts views with engagement’ and ‘Watch hours with engagement’,” the company notes.
