Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that this Friday a mostly sunny environment with scarce rainfall will prevail across much of the national territory, although scattered showers and possible thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon in several provinces due to the influence of a trough.
According to the agency, during the morning, atmospheric conditions will be marked by skies with few clouds and high temperatures. However, in the afternoon, the combination of daytime heating and the trough will favor cloud increases accompanied by scattered showers, possible isolated thunderstorms, and wind gusts.
Rainfall will be concentrated mainly over localities in the southeast, northeast, the Central Mountain Range, and the border area, including some sectors of Greater Santo Domingo.
Likewise, Indomet announced that an increase in rainfall is expected over the weekend, with downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts associated with the influence of a trough and the passage of tropical waves.
The entity also indicated that the hot environment will continue, further influenced by the presence of Saharan dust, so it urged the population to stay well hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., wear light-colored, lightweight clothing, and remain in cool, ventilated places. The recommendations extend especially to children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with health conditions.
Forecast for Greater Santo Domingo
- National District: Hot environment with few clouds during the morning. In the afternoon, partly cloudy skies are expected with showers and possible thunderstorms.
- North Santo Domingo: Hot sensation and isolated clouds. Increasing cloudiness with local showers and possible thunderstorms.
- West Santo Domingo: Sunny and hot sky in the morning. Partly cloudy to cloudy in the afternoon with showers and possible thunderstorms.
- East Santo Domingo: Sunny and hot environment. Increasing cloudiness during the afternoon with showers and possible thunderstorms.
Regarding temperatures, Indomet forecast lows between 23 °C and 25 °C, while highs will range between 33 °C and 35 °C, maintaining a high heat index in much of the country.
