2026-2027 school calendar approved with measures to recover lost classes
Santo Domingo. The National Council of Education (CNE) approved this Tuesday the 2026-2027 School Calendar, incorporating new provisions aimed at ensuring the effective fulfillment of learning time in the country’s educational centers.
Among the main measures is the creation of a time bank equivalent to two weeks of the academic calendar, which will allow for the recovery of teaching days affected by eventualities or unforeseen situations during the school year.
The decision was adopted during the second ordinary session of the body, led by the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, who, together with the other members of the Council, evaluated various initiatives linked to the strengthening of the educational system.
As part of the agreements reached, the CNE instructed that the time bank be integrated into the final version of the school calendar and recommended updating the regulations on class recovery in force since 2009, with the purpose of adapting them to the current needs of Dominican education.

The strategy contemplates the transversal incorporation of computational thinking and competencies related to artificial intelligence within the educational curriculum, without creating independent subjects for these areas.
Likewise, the Vice Minister of Educational Planning and Development, Ayacx Mercedes Contreras, was sworn in as a new member of the National Council of Education.

The work agenda also included the evaluation of the selection process for the teachers who will be recognized with the Medals for Teaching Merit, as well as the review of a curricular proposal submitted to the Ministry of Education for its corresponding analysis.
