Santo Domingo.- The Program for the Timely Detection of Breast, Cervical, and Prostate Cancer has assisted 38,282 men in the prostate category, from its implementation in May 2021 to May of this year.
The initiative, led by First Lady Raquel Arbaje, together with the National Health Service (SNS), aims to promote the early detection of prostate cancer through campaigns carried out in different provinces of the country, specialized consultations in prioritized hospitals, and the performance of timely diagnostic studies.
Of the patients attended, 16,983 received assistance in the ten hospitals prioritized by the program, while 21,299 men were screened through the sessions carried out in the different provinces of the country. Likewise, 32,052 Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) tests were performed and 5,335 patients with clinically relevant findings were identified.

Similarly, 853 patients remain under medical follow-up with suspected prostate cancer, 276 have undergone biopsies, and 92 were diagnosed with the disease, which has allowed for their referral and timely treatment in hospitals of the Public Health Services Network.
The prioritized hospitals in Greater Santo Domingo include the Rosa Emilia Sánchez Pérez de Tavares National Cancer Institute (Incart), the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital, the Francisco Moscoso Puello, and the Francisco Vicente Castro Sandoval (Boca Chica). In the interior of the country, the program operates at the Juan Pablo Pina Hospital (San Cristóbal), the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia (La Altagracia), the Presidente Estrella Ureña (Santiago), the Morillo King (La Vega), and the Jaime Mota (Barahona).
