The victim died as a result of a deep stab wound to the chest, allegedly caused by a switchblade, according to preliminary investigations by the National Police.

The regional director of the National Police in Santiago, General Jesús Rafael Tejada Tejada, confirmed that the minor was placed under the jurisdiction of the Children and Adolescents Court and that the authorities are working to determine what caused the crime.

“We deeply regret this incident. The 17-year-old girl is already at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. We are investigating whether there were problems or a history of conflict between the couple that could have triggered this tragedy,” stated the senior officer.

The corpse of Gerónimo Suárez was sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding autopsy.

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased revealed that the teenager is a native of Santo Domingo and that, allegedly, they both met through social media before starting a romantic relationship.

Authorities continue their investigations to clarify the circumstances of the homicide and determine responsibility in this case, which has caused consternation in Santiago.
