The complaint coincides with another recent death of a homeless person in Badalona, also related to the low temperatures. From Arrels they insist on the urgent need to reinforce the municipal devices to protect those who sleep outdoors during the coldest months of the year. According to the latest data published by the Arrels Foundation in December 2025, the number of people living on the streets in Barcelona and its metropolitan area amounts to 1,982, which represents an increase of 43.2% compared to 2024. The entity considers that this is a record figure that highlights the urgency of more effective public policies to address homelessness.“It cannot be that metropolitan city councils do not open their own resources and that Barcelona only expands by 100 places when nearly 2,000 people live on the street,” they pointed out from the foundation.
