A 28-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle this Tuesday morning while fleeing federal immigration agents in St. Augustine, in the state of Florida (USA).
The incident occurred around 07:00 [local time]. According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Sergeant Major Dylan Bryan, as cited by the Miami Herald, agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) were involved in an “encounter” in “the parking lot of a local gas station and convenience store.”
After that, four people fled and one of them was struck by a tractor-trailer after running across State Highway 16.

At the moment, the authorities have not disclosed the immigrant’s identity, nationality, or immigration status; nor have they disclosed the reason for the immigration agents’ actions.

This is the third person to die in an incident involving ICE in one week. Previously, two men were shot and killed by agents of that agency while driving; one of them was the Mexican Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was a father of three, gunned down on July 7; and the other was the Colombian Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, whose murder was recorded last Monday in Biddeford, Maine.
