Perla Massiel Reyes Familia had a healthy pregnancy without complications. One night she felt pain in her lower abdomen and began a heavy bleeding that took her to a medical center. The doctors informed her that her 8-month-old fetus had died and her placenta had detached, which is why they had to perform an emergency cesarean section to safeguard her life. That’s where Perla’s ordeal began. After the intervention, there was massive internal bleeding. Two more operations on the same day to stop the bleeding. 8 days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a clinic in Santo Domingo Este, have marked the life of this young woman of just 26 years of age, who was in her first pregnancy. Placental abruption, total abdominal hysterectomy, multiple blood transfusions, and continuous renal therapy have been the diagnosis given to her mother, Solanlli Familia, by the specialists, who approached the editorial staff of De Último Minuto to request help.

“Cada día hay que dializarla porque la doctora dice que sus riñones no arrancan. Cada diálisis son RD$15 mil pesos y le han dado hasta 3 en un día. Se me esta muriendo mi hija. Quiero salvarla”,

exclamó la señora Familia.
The bill at the medical center amounts to RD$200,000 pesos to date (excluding medical fees) and the family does not have this sum of money to pay it. They are asking for a helping hand to assist them, and thus be able to transfer Perla Massiel to a public hospital so that she can continue her medical treatment, regain her longed-for health and complete this very difficult stage.

Without a baby in her arms and without the possibility of getting pregnant again, Perla Massiel is in one of the most painful and difficult moments of her life.
