Santiago.- The former presidential candidate of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and former mayor of Santiago, Abel Martínez, demanded this Thursday that the Government Council to be held in this city, which will be presided over by President Luis Abinader, translate into concrete solutions for the main problems affecting the population, considering that Dominicans need immediate results and, in his view, not more promises.
Martínez stated that the Dominican Republic faces urgent challenges regarding citizen security, the cost of living, education, health, and migration control, and therefore urged the authorities to adopt effective measures that directly impact the population.
“The country needs results more than theories and intentions. Dominicans expect concrete facts that improve their quality of life”, expressed the political leader.
Among his proposals, he suggested strengthening the fight against crime through the use of technological tools in the most vulnerable communities, as well as developing a national training plan in artificial intelligence and new technologies to prepare the population for the transformations of the labor market.

Likewise, he advocated for the strengthening of education and health systems through technological innovation, with the goal of making public services more efficient and expanding access to knowledge.

On the economic front, he called for actions to reduce the cost of the basic family basket, support national agricultural production, and lower the costs affecting producers, by incentivizing the use of the country’s resources and productive capacity.
Martínez also insisted on the need to strengthen migration control, proposing the creation of a National Registry of Foreigners and demanding that the measures adopted in this area be transparent and effective.
“Migration control must be real and executed with responsibility. The country needs order, security, and respect for the laws,” he maintained.

The statements were offered in Santiago prior to a meeting with political leaders and officials from the Northwest Line, especially from Montecristi, where he reiterated that the Government Council must become a tool to generate concrete responses to the population’s demands.
The political leader expressed his considerations a few hours before President Luis Abinader is scheduled to carry out an intense presidential work agenda from June 12 to 14 in Santiago, which will include the inauguration of works, supervision of strategic projects, meetings with social and business sectors, as well as the holding of a Special Council of Ministers with the participation of more than 400 representatives from the province.
