Santo Domingo.- In a decision that marks a new milestone in the internal debate of the Partido de la
Liberación Dominicana (PLD), presidential candidate Abel Martínez formally notified that his name should not be included in the list of candidates to be presented before the assembly of the Central Committee convened for February 22nd.
Through a letter addressed to the president of the PLD, Danilo Medina, and the general secretary, Johnny Pujols, Martínez explained that his position responds to a conviction of principles and an institutional stance, stating that, “coherence is not proclaimed: it is practiced.”
In his communication, Abel Martínez maintained that the path to 2028 must be built on an authentic and transparent consensus, warning that any process that deviates from the Constitution, electoral laws, and the party’s Statutes, ends up weakening the trust of the Dominican people.
The PLD leader specified that his decision does not represent resignation, but rather a reaffirmation of dignity and coherence: “My absence from that list is not a step back: it is a reaffirmation of my dignity. My presidential aspiration remains intact.”
Martínez also reiterated that he will continue touring the country and listening to the people, assuring that his project remains firm and connected with the national sentiment: “My fight is not for a circumstance of the present: it is for the future of the Homeland.”
“The PLD is bigger than any situation. Our task is to once again be the hope of a people who observe us and who expect maturity and adherence to the truth from us,” Abel expressed in the letter.
Finally, the presidential candidate reaffirmed his commitment to the Party and to the Dominican Republic, insisting that his hand remains extended to build a legitimate and united consensus, with clear rules and institutional guarantees.
