Santo Domingo. President Luis Abinader acknowledged that part of the protests and demonstrations recorded in recent days are in response to demands that the Government must listen to and address, while reiterating that his administration maintains a policy of permanent dialogue with the citizenry.
During an interview granted to journalists José Monegro and Edith Febles, the president stated that the authorities are closely monitoring the situations that cause concern among the population and are working to provide responses to social demands.
“Many of those protests have content that we must address, and this has always been an open government, a government that listens,” stated the head of state.
Abinader explained that the country has faced various situations simultaneously, including the effects of the international economic situation on some consumer products, which, as he indicated, has impacted the cost of living for Dominican families.
In that sense, he assured that the Government constantly monitors citizens’ concerns and maintains contact with the affected people to evaluate each case.

“We are occupied and concerned about any situation that affects people, and we follow up on it. We make direct contact with the individuals and evaluate each case,” he stated.
The president maintained that, despite the difficulties derived from the international context, the Dominican Republic continues to advance thanks to the effort of its citizens and the measures implemented by the Government to mitigate the impact of external factors on the economy.

Likewise, he reiterated that his administration prioritizes dialogue and the search for agreements with the different national sectors, even when he has a majority in the National Congress.
“We always seek consensus, both with political forces and with sectors of civil society,” he stated.
The president’s statements come amidst various demonstrations recorded in recent weeks over issues related to the cost of living, legislative initiatives, and other social demands, scenarios in which different sectors have requested greater openness to dialogue on the part of the authorities.
Abinader concluded by reaffirming that preserving social peace and maintaining open channels of communication with the citizenry will continue to be a priority of his administration.
