Santo Domingo.– The Dominican College of Dentists (CDO) has called on President Luis Abinader to intervene regarding a series of demands that, according to the union, have gone unanswered by health authorities for several years.
The president of the CDO, Dr. Amarilis Laureano, stated that dentists are facing administrative decisions they consider harmful, including schedule changes imposed by the National Health Service (SNS), which she described as arbitrary. Likewise, she called for these measures to be stopped and for dialogue with the sector to be resumed.
The union also demanded the application of pending salary increases for administrative staff, as well as the payment of seniority incentives, benefits that they claim have not yet been implemented.
Among the main demands is the revision of pensions for dentists in the public system, with the goal of having them adjusted according to the salary scale corresponding to medical specialists. According to the CDO, dental professionals have been left out of agreements established for other health unions since 2023.
The organization also requested the formulation of a national plan to strengthen dentistry in the country, which includes training programs, the expansion of national and international scholarships, the updating of academic programs, and greater financial support for research projects.

Another of the approaches presented was the review of the regulations applied to dental equipment that uses radiation, considering that the current standards need to be updated to respond to the current needs of professional practice.
Finally, the Dominican College of Dentists reiterated its commitment to defending the rights of its members and assured that it will continue to promote actions aimed at improving working conditions and the development of dentistry for the benefit of the Dominican population.
