Santo Domingo, D.R. – President Luis Abinader reported that the Dominican Republic maintains a logistical and humanitarian support role in the multinational force mission deployed in Haiti, without direct involvement in anti-gang operations.
During an interview granted to the media, the head of state specified that the country’s cooperation focuses on humanitarian medical assistance and information coordination with the international mission.
“We do not have direct participation. What we have is logistical participation. We have participation in support, in medical humanitarian aid. And we have coordination,” the president expressed.
When questioned about whether such coordination includes the exchange of intelligence, President Abinader confirmed that a permanent communication channel exists.

“Yes, there is coordination with that multinational force. If there is any situation, they inform us and we prepare ourselves,” he indicated.
Strengthening the border and salary improvements for military personnel
Regarding the situation in the border area, the president highlighted the positive impact of the smart perimeter fence in reducing theft and smuggling.

Likewise, he highlighted the modernization and equipment process of the Armed Forces, which now have armored vehicles and better weaponry.
The president also referred to the salary increase applied to military personnel. He pointed out that salaries have tripled, going from 9,000 pesos to approximately 27,000 pesos.
He added that members of the Armed Forces assigned to the border receive additional compensation for specialty.
“The Armed Forces are better equipped. We already have armored vehicles. Before, we did not have armored vehicles. We have much better weaponry. The military’s salaries have been increased three times. And those at the border are paid a specialty bonus,” he pointed out.
Relations with the Haitian government
Regarding the bilateral relationship, President Abinader stated that it is currently not fluid due to the institutional crisis that Haiti is going through.
He explained that more than 70% of Port-au-Prince is under the control of armed gangs, which creates a precarious situation that limits direct communication.
“The relationship with the Haitian government is not very fluid due to the conditions there. We coordinate with foreign forces and, when any coordination with the government is necessary, we do it through the Foreign Ministry,” he stated.
The Dominican Government reiterated its commitment to regional stability, the defense of national sovereignty, and support for international efforts to contribute to the pacification of Haiti.
