SANTO DOMINGO.- President Luis Abinader praised the role played by the Directorate of Social Assistance and Community Feeding (DASAC) in the achievement reached by the Dominican Republic, which received recognition from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) after reaching the Zero Hunger goal by reducing undernourishment to below 2.5%.
He explained that these results have been possible thanks to the strengthening of food programs, among which he highlighted those developed by the Directorate of Social Assistance and Community Food (DASAC), an institution that has contributed significantly to expanding the coverage of food assistance throughout the national territory.
He indicated that, as part of this great effort, the Government, through the Community Kitchens, managed to increase the cooked rations distributed daily from 18,000 in 2020 to 183,000 that are currently guaranteed each day to low-income households.
For his part, the director of this institution, Edgar Augusto Féliz Arbona, stated that this achievement reflects President Abinader’s firm commitment to the protection of the most vulnerable families.
“Exiting the World Hunger Map is an achievement for the entire country, but it is also the result of each of the public policies that the Government has implemented to bring direct support to Dominican families, regardless of location, creed, or political affiliation,” he expressed.
Féliz Arbona highlighted that, between 2020 and 2025, the institution distributed more than 218 million cooked food rations and more than 122 million raw ration kits throughout the national territory.

“This recognition from the FAO and our president fills us with pride, but it also commits us to continue working tirelessly to ensure that no Dominican is left behind and that food security remains a national priority,” concluded Féliz Arbona.
