Abinader highlights historical value of La Caleta Underwater Park and announces bidding for pedestrian bridge
La Caleta. – President Luis Abinader highlighted this Monday the importance of La Caleta Underwater National Park as a space of tourist, historical and recreational utility for Dominicans, while announcing that the Government is studying the construction of a pedestrian bridge that facilitates safe access to this area, located in the vicinity of Las Américas International Airport.
The president pointed out that the park, in addition to being a popular recreation spot, lacked adequate conditions for visitors.
“They came practically every week, but they didn’t have a good space to change or to be treated,” he indicated, highlighting that the remodeling comes to respond to that need.
Abinader said that La Caleta has high value as a pre-Columbian museum, urban park and tourist attraction, so it must be carefully preserved.
“It’s an area that we have to take care of and that can be very useful, tourist and historical, for Dominicans,” he expressed.
In that context, he reported that he asked the director of RD Vial to study the budget for the construction of a pedestrian bridge.
“I asked him to study a budget to build a pedestrian bridge to La Caleta,” he affirmed, considering that the work would contribute to a better integration and accessibility of the park.
The president also addressed the government’s plans for road infrastructure and sanitation, highlighting the coordinated work for asphalt, aqueduct, and sanitary sewer in La Caleta and Boca Chica, as part of an integral program that extends to Punta Cana. He explained that the objective is to avoid wasting resources through proper planning between the placement of pipes and paving.
Finally, Abinader congratulated the Ministry of Tourism for the work, but emphasized the need for shared governance for its maintenance.
“I ask for governance between Tourism, Environment, the municipality and the private sector, to maintain this park in the best way possible, which has been built with an investment of more than 420 million pesos, money from the people that we have to take care of,” he concluded, also urging social sectors to protect and preserve
