Santiago Rodríguez.— President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Sunday the first section of the Cruce Los Quemados highway, a project that improves connectivity and boosts the development of hundreds of families and agricultural producers in Santiago Rodríguez, by facilitating the transport of people and goods, strengthening access to health and education services, and stimulating the economy of rural communities. The intervention, executed by the Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (EGEHID), required an investment of RD$199,359,100.34.
During the event, the general administrator of EGEHID, Ángel Rafael Salazar, stated that the rehabilitation responds to President Luis Abinader’s vision of promoting the development of the communities where the company executes hydroelectric projects.
He explained that this first stage directly benefits the communities of Puerta del Mulo, El Caimito, Arroyo Seco, Los Caimonies, Sabaneta, and Las Caobas, as well as other nearby sectors, by improving mobility, road safety, and opportunities for economic and social development.
The official announced that the second section of the highway, approximately 12 kilometers long, from Las Caobas to the Los Quemados Junction, will be completed by the end of July, once the tests on the pipeline network installed by the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewerage (INAPA) are finished.
He also reported that EGEHID will pave the side entrances of the road to contribute to the preservation of the infrastructure, and urged local communities and authorities to work together on its maintenance.

Salazar also highlighted that the construction of the Boca de los Ríos dam, on the Guayubín River, is progressing according to the established schedule and will be delivered in December, along with other social projects that the institution is developing in the province.
EGEHID Social Responsibility Program
The first stage comprises an 11.2-kilometer section that extends from Próceres de la Restauración Avenue, in the San Ignacio de Sabaneta municipality, to the community of Las Caobas. The project is part of EGEHID’s Social Responsibility Program and seeks to improve mobility conditions for the communities located in the area of influence of the hydroelectric projects developed by the institution.

The works included milling, paving, horizontal and vertical signage, construction of speed bumps and vehicular accesses, application of tack coat, placement of asphalt carpet with a compacted thickness of two and a half inches, and construction of gabion walls to ensure the stability and safety of the road.
With the rehabilitation of this road, agricultural producers will be able to transport their harvests in better conditions and at lower costs, while students, workers, and patients will have safer and faster access to educational centers, hospitals, and other essential services. Likewise, the reduction in travel times will contribute to strengthening trade and productive activities in the province.
On behalf of the beneficiary communities, Leonardo Rodríguez Almonte thanked President Luis Abinader for making a long-awaited project a reality and assured that it represents progress, well-being, and new opportunities for the families in the area.
The provincial governor, Glehany Yafreysy Azcona Torres; Senator Antonio Marte; the mayor of the San Ignacio de Sabaneta municipality, Félix Marte; Deputy Juana Castillo; Deputy Nicolás López; the provincial director of Sports, Bienvenido Bisonó; and parish priest Javier Fernández, among other personalities, participated in the event.
