Monte Plata.- More than 1,200 small farmers participated this Tuesday in the launch of the National Definitive Titling Plan for Small Farmers of the Agrarian Reform, an initiative with which the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) began the technical work that will allow for the transformation of provisional titles into definitive titles for families who, in some cases, had been waiting up to 55 years for legal security over the lands they work.

The event was led by the interim general director of the IAD, Darío Castillo Lugo, together with national, provincial and municipal authorities, representatives of the agricultural sector, and plot and community leaders.

During his speech, Castillo Lugo highlighted that Monte Plata has 69 peasant settlements and more than 15,100 historically settled smallholders, which is why this plan represents one of the greatest acts of social justice promoted by the Dominican State.

Likewise, he reaffirmed the IAD’s new institutional mission to complete the Agrarian Reform cycle through definitive titling. “Delivering definitive titles to Agrarian Reform plot holders is the greatest act of social justice that a Government has carried out in the Dominican Republic,” he expressed.

He also reiterated that the entire process will be completely free and warned that no plot holder should pay money to anyone to participate in any of its stages. “Fewer words, fewer promises, and more results,” he stated.

Social uprisings will begin immediately after the launch and will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the centers enabled for each settlement. The schedule of dates for each community was provided during the event.

To participate in the social survey, plot holders must present a copy of their identity card and that of their spouse or partner (if applicable), marriage certificate or notarized act of common-law union, and the provisional IAD title or settler’s card.

In the case of deceased plot holders, the heirs must present the death certificate, affidavit of notoriety, birth certificates, and copies of the corresponding identification cards.

With this initiative, the IAD reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the heritage of rural families, providing legal security over land, and turning years of waiting into opportunities for thousands of Dominicans.
