The diplomat criticized an event held on Spanish territory that Antoliano Peralta attended.

Santo Domingo.- The United States Ambassador, Leah Francis Campos, reacted to the participation of Antoliano Peralta, Minister of Justice, in the Summit on the Defense of Democracy convened by the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez.

Fields criticized the aforementioned summit, indicating that when the global left pronounces words like “misinformation“, it is advocating for censorship.

The IV meeting titled In defense of democracy was held this Saturday in Barcelona, Spain, with the presence of heads of state and progressive political leaders from Latin America and various parts of the world, including Pedro Sánchez, President of the Spanish Government; Claudia Sheinbaum, President of Mexico; Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil; Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia; Yamandú Orsi, President of Uruguay; and Gabriel Boric, former President of Chile.

This progressive summit, whose leaders present share tensions with US President Donald Trump, put on the dialogue table issues beyond the defense of democracy: from criticisms against the actions of the United Nations Organization (UN) to the complex situation that Cuba is experiencing in the midst of the economic and energy embargo imposed by the US. The meeting comes as a political “alternative,” as Petro described it, in the face of the advance of the right wing in the world. And although there were few direct mentions of Trump, the allusions to the US president marked a common point among the participants.
