SANTO DOMINGO.- The United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Leah Francis Campos, warned about the erosion of freedom when ideas are limited, during the commemorative gala for the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States.

“Freedom of expression is repressed when ideas are silenced before they can be heard; freedom begins to wear away, at first silently, and then, all at once,” the diplomat expressed to guests from all social sectors gathered at the residence of the United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic.

In her speech, Leah Francis Campos maintained that the protection of public debate is a central element for the sustainability of democratic societies.
