Santo Domingo. – The leader of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and coordinator of Gonzalo Castillo’s political project, Andrés Navarro, confirmed that the former presidential candidate will not participate in the RD Debate, an initiative organized by the Social and Economic Development Council of Santo Domingo (CODESSD) for the presidential aspirants of that organization.
During an interview on the program Gobierno de la Tarde, on the Z101 station, Navarro explained that the decision is part of the strategy defined by Castillo’s political team, focused exclusively on the internal process being carried out by the PLD.
“Within the design of our project, participation in debates is not contemplated, nor is promoting other mechanisms. We are going to focus strictly on what the Organizing Commission of the Citizen Consultation establishes,” he stated.
However, he clarified that this decision corresponds solely to Gonzalo Castillo’s project and does not represent an institutional position of the PLD, nor does it limit the participation of the other candidates.
“Just as we have made that decision, we are the first to defend the right that every aspirant has to participate in that or any other mechanism,” he stated.
Navarro’s statements come after several PLD presidential pre-candidates confirmed their attendance at RD Debate, including Francisco Javier García, Francisco Domínguez Brito, Manfred Mata, Luis de León, and Ventura Camejo.

The debate cycle will begin on August 23rd as part of a CODESSD initiative to promote the exchange of proposals and the discussion of solutions to the main national challenges, within the framework of the party’s internal process.
The event will feature RTVD Channel 4 as the official channel, Z101 as the official radio station, and El Nuevo Diario as the official newspaper, in addition to the participation of representatives from civil society, the business sector, academia, and the media.
With this decision, Gonzalo Castillo’s political team rules out his participation in the RD Debate and reaffirms that it will concentrate its efforts on the internal consultation process organized by the PLD.
