Valverde/Santiago Rodríguez.– The Dominican Republic Army (ERD) reported this Tuesday the arrest of three Dominican citizens accused of transporting 28 Haitian nationals in an irregular migratory status during operations carried out in the Valverde and Santiago Rodríguez provinces.
In an initial intervention, carried out near the Los Guayacanes intersection, in the Laguna Salada municipality, Valverde province, Wualdo David Almonte García was arrested, who was driving a gray Dodge Durango SXT 4×4 SUV.
According to the military report, the driver attempted to escape upon noticing the soldiers’ presence, which led to a pursuit that ended when he struck another vehicle in a dead-end alley.
Upon inspecting the SUV, the military personnel found 15 Haitian nationals in an irregular migratory status, including 12 men and three women. Additionally, they seized an iPhone cell phone.
In a second operation, carried out on the Duarte highway, near the Esperanza junction, also in Valverde, a gray Hyundai Sonata car was intercepted, driven by Wadimir Peña Santana, who was transporting eight undocumented Haitians, six men and two women.

Meanwhile, in La Guayaba alley, Santiago Rodríguez province, an ERD patrol arrested Leuris de Jesús Almonte, 25, while he was traveling on a motorcycle with five Haitian nationals in an irregular migratory status: two men, one woman, and two minors.

The three detainees were transferred under custody to the headquarters of the Fourth Infantry Brigade of the Army, from where they will be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal purposes.

Meanwhile, the 28 foreigners will be handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), which will continue with the procedure established by the General Migration Law.
The Army stated that it maintains surveillance and interdiction efforts in the border zone and other areas of its jurisdiction as part of the actions aimed at combating the illicit trafficking of migrants.
