Montecristi and Santiago Rodríguez, D.R.– A total of 25 Haitian citizens in an irregular migratory status were detained by members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) during surveillance and interdiction operations carried out in the provinces of Montecristi and Santiago Rodríguez.
According to the military institution, in an initial intervention carried out by members of the Mangá Military Checkpoint, in the municipality of Guayubín, 14 foreigners were located hiding in an abandoned dwelling in the El Pocito sector. The group consisted of eight men and six women.
In an operation carried out subsequently in the Santiago Rodríguez province, a patrol from the Fourth Infantry Brigade intercepted another 11 Haitian citizens, all men, while they were traveling through the area known as Canal de La Caída.

The 25 foreigners were transferred under military custody to the corresponding station, where the standard procedures were completed before being handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), the entity responsible for the migratory processes established by Dominican legislation.

The Army reported that these operations are part of the permanent surveillance actions it maintains in the border zone and other areas under its jurisdiction, with the purpose of strengthening territorial control, combating the illegal trafficking of migrants, and preventing other related crimes.
