San Juan and Elías Piña.– A total of 48 Haitian citizens in an irregular migratory status were detained by members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) during several operations carried out in communities in the provinces of San Juan and Elías Piña.
The first intervention was carried out by a patrol from the General Pedro Florentino Fortress, which located 21 foreigners in the Los Jovillos community, Pan de Azúcar section, Las Matas de Farfán municipality.
The group was made up of 11 men, nine women, and one minor, who, according to the military report, were moving through farms and pastures with the purpose of avoiding the checkpoints installed in the area.
In a second operation, personnel from the General Antonio Duvergé Detachment, in Elías Piña province, intercepted another 15 Haitians as they attempted to enter Dominican territory through an irregular crossing near Pyramid 178.
Similarly, soldiers from the Bánica detachment detained another 12 men of Haitian nationality in the Rincón Grande area, near the Tocino River, while they were traveling through a wooded area.

According to the authorities, the foreigners allegedly crossed the border through the Artibonito River, in the section known as Tierrita Colorada, at the foot of the San Francisco de Asís hill, and were heading towards the Sabana Mula community, in Las Matas de Farfán.

The 48 detainees were transferred to the corresponding military facilities and will subsequently be handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), the entity responsible for applying the procedure established by current migration legislation.

The Army reported that it maintains permanent surveillance and interdiction operations in the border area with the objective of reinforcing territorial control, combating illicit migrant trafficking, and preventing irregular migration.
