Army reinforces operations in Dajabón and detains another 10 undocumented Haitians

Dajabón. – The Dominican Republic Army (ERD) reported that it maintains reinforced surveillance and control operations in the border area of Dajabón, where another 10 Haitian nationals were arrested in an irregular migratory condition during operations carried out at the El Rodeo checkpoint. According to military authorities, the detainees were trying to evade the controls established in that border area. The group was made up of five men and five women. The operation was carried out by members of the ERD intelligence service and a patrol from the Tenth Infantry Battalion, with support from drone units deployed in the area.

The Army explained that this operation is in addition to the recent detention of 73 undocumented foreigners carried out by members of the Tenth Infantry Battalion, based at the Beller Fortress, following intelligence and surveillance work carried out in communities of Loma de Cabrera, El Pino and Partido. In those actions, drone units and military patrols were also used with the aim of blocking the routes used for the irregular trafficking of people, according to the official report. Authorities indicated that the foreigners detained in both operations were transferred under military custody to the Tenth Infantry Battalion and subsequently handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) for the corresponding legal procedures.
