Montecristi.– Members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) thwarted the alleged trafficking of 10 Haitian citizens in an irregular migratory status during an operation carried out in the mangroves of Mangle Negro, at Punta Luna Beach, Montecristi province, where they also seized three motorcycles that were allegedly going to be used to transport them to different parts of the country.
The military intervention was deployed after intelligence agencies alerted about the arrival of a vessel from Haiti with undocumented migrants. Upon arriving at the scene, the soldiers intercepted the group, which consisted of two men, five women, and three minors.
According to the ERD report, upon noticing the presence of the military, the motorcycle drivers fled, as did the vessel used for the landing, managing to escape from the scene.

The seized motorcycles correspond to a Gato brand GY-200, a Loncin Brand 90, and a Haojue 125, which were retained for investigation purposes.
The 10 foreigners were handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), while the Army reported that it maintains reinforced interdiction operations in the border and coastal area to combat the illicit trafficking of migrants and dismantle the networks dedicated to this activity.
